LA in KDHX's local artist spotlight

Exciting news! LEFT ARM will be the artist featured on the "Local Artist Spotlight" on 88.1 FM KDHX in St. Louis. The spots will run twice/day for the two weeks between Oct. 29 and Nov. 11. I went in to record the interview portion of the segment last night. Here's to hoping I don't make myself or the band come of like total dorks! Big ups to Matt Brinkmann for everything.

Also, the CD is in production as we speak...er, write...er, read. So, they'll be here and ready for the CD release party November 10th at the Stagger Inn. Yay!

See ya Halloween night for a night of GORE!!!

We've been blown

News bits!

A.) We had an amazing show and an amazing time at the first ever Show-Me Blowout fest at Off Broadway. Thanks to everyone for coming out and dancin yer asses off and to Kopper and Bill Streeter for putting on an excellent weekend.

B.) Our new CD, "Dissatisoul" (cover shown above) is off being mastered and it sounds killer! 12 tracks of hot fuzz. It is my/our aim to have that baby back in our hands (and then in your hands) for the November 10th show at The Stagger Inn. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

C.) Now we look forward to an amazing show Halloween night with the lovely and talented, Gore Gore Girls.

Happy birthday Left Arm!

Classic Left Arm - Jim fuzzbassin' at the Creepy Crawl in '03.

As of August 8th (technically yesterday), LEFT ARM is officially 5 years old! It's easy for me to remember - LA shares my birthday. Songwriting began in August, and we played our first show in October of 2002.

Ahh, a long and bumpy ride it's been for sure.

While we've kicked much ass in that time, I truly believe what lies ahead (both in the very near and distant futures) will be even better! I'm not just saying that. The various recordings sound great, and we have several confirmed (and unconfirmed) shows lined up for the fall that have "legendary" written all over them.

Thanks for the mammaries.

We gotta place to go after the show

A bunch of exciting things going on in camp LEFT ARM. For starters, the recording process for the new CD is moving along nicely. Drums, fuzzbass, guitars and 90% of the vocals have been tracked. Everything is sounding pretty boss. We have a massive amount of mixing ahead of us, so that's a bit daunting. But, we're gonna keep plowing forward over the course of the summer. The track listing (in no particular order) is looking like this:

1. Lure of the Light
2. After Party
3. No Time for Rock n Roll
4. Gotta Go
5. More Harm Than Good
6. New Kind of Kick
7. Congratulations
8. Forget the Rock, Let's Roll
9. As Seen On TV
10. Gonna Get You
11. Love Blast
12. Damn the Peanut Man

With maybe a bonus track or two thrown in there if we're lucky.

Also, we're trying to solidify our show schedule for the rest of the year. We have GroveFest (the 15th) and a big pre-GonerFest show with CoCoComa and The Hipshakes at the Way Out Club in September (the 24th). In October (the 12th) we're playing the first annual TIRC Show Me Blowout! And that should be one hell of a good time. Plus, it's very possible that we'll be playing a HUGE Halloween show. More details on that soon.

In November and December we'll hopefully be hitting the road. If you live in Louisville, Carbondale, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Memphis, Nashville, or Chicago and you can hook us up with a show, drop us a line at leftarmmusic@yahoo.com.

AND last but not least as they say, the LEFT ARM family welcomes it's newest member, Corinne Sophia Potter. She was born Saturday night, and if I do say so myself she's completely adorable. I breed 'em to replace me when my joints get brittle. Yeah! Ok, thanks for listening.

Here ya go. Feel free to go hog mad!

LEFT ARM live at Lemmons 7/14/07 playing The Cramps' classic "New Kind Of Kick". Shot by the amazing Gary Hudson.

Left Arm - 7/14/07 at Lemmons

It's been fun, but let's be honest - we both knew this thing we've had between us wouldn't - and couldn't - last forever.

It's true, the LEFT ARM Spring Fling 2K7 is coming to a close this Saturday night at Lemmons. We're going to be taking the summer off from playing shows. In fact, if you're around the St. Louis area, you won't be seeing much of us for the rest of the year. We have a couple dates lined up in town, but mostly we'll be on the road or recording.

So, come on out, get a pizza, get some beers, and party with us while you're lucky enough to have the chance!

Recording update

Two LEFT ARM recording projects going on at the same time:

1.) Stuff for a full-length CD: Recorded the basic drum/bass tracks on 7 songs with Rick Harmon a few weeks back. Waiting to get back in with him to finish guitars and vocals. When we get this stuff done, we're going to put this with the "Play 5 songs with a Caveman" EP for a grand total of 12 or 13 songs for a disc that'll be on TIRC records sometime near the end of the year.

2.) Stuff for a 7": Recorded the basic drum/bass tracks in our practice space the other day on 3 songs. Joe's gonna be finishing up the guitars over the next week or so. Vocals to follow. Ideally, we'd like to record one or 2 more and pick our favorite couple to cut to vinyl. Here's a few pics from the recording.

Plus, somehow we got bumped out of playing the South Side Rocks Off gig for July 7th. It's cool though, we just got added to Bob's birthday bash at the Way Out Club for that same night. We'll be kicking it with The Last Place and The Hail Marys. Kick ass!

She's a human bomb, baby

Enjoy this pic of Jimbo in Carbondale. Also, enjoy the daisy on the stool that's obviously enjoying herself quite a bit. Speaking of gals enjoying themselves, enjoy this 4-track basement demo of a brand new LEFT ARM cut. It's called Human Bomb and it's straight from the mind of Joe Stumble.

You'll no-doubt be hearing this baby at the Lemmons gig on July 14th.

LEFT ARM video on lofistl.com!

If you haven't heard of Bill Streeter and his video blog (vlog) at www.lofistl.com you either a.) don't own a computer b.) don't love St. Louis music and culture or c.) don't like kick-ass new technologies. Because the stuff that Bill's doing is amazing! Not only does he constantly scratch the underbelly of all things St. Louis as a talented videographer, he travels the country participating in panels, leading discussion groups, and giving lectures on hip, new and emerging methods of online communication.

Well, Bill was out - video camera in hand - for the Gore Gore Girls / Left Arm show back on May 1st at Atomic Cowboy and he just posted the spot on us (Left Arm that is.)

Check it out! A video of Left Arm in LO-FI SAINT LOUIS!

STL Music Poll

Well it looks like despite the insane amount of evangelizing Jason, Jim and I did, we did not win the RFT Best Garage Band Award. Part of me wants to ask the folks at the RFT for a count because I believe that a ridiculous amount of people voted for us. Problem was, that we were a write-in and I don't think the whole voting system was set up to deal with the possibility of a write-in winning.

The first inkling I had that things were not going to go so well was when I found out that there was an Academy Awards style ceremony planned for the night before. Of course, all of the nominated bands were in attendance but what about the possibility of a write-in? I don't think the RFT planned for that contingency because the idea that a write-in could win seemed like such a long shot.

So I guess what I am saying is that if we did win, I don't think the RFT counted us. Or maybe we just didn't. Maybe Johny O and the Jerks beat us fair and square.

Who knows and more to the point who cares? I would rather focus on the fact that our show last night with the Rockford Mules and Kentucky Knife Fight was our best show yet (with me in the band). If you haven't come out to see us you should. We are evolving into an insanely tight musical fuckin' juggernaut!

This time next year we may not even be able to be nominated for Best Garage Band because we will have broken out of the confines of that label. They will have to create a new musical category. Best Left Arm band...and your choices will be:

A. Left Arm
B. Left Arm
C. Left Arm
D. Left Arm

No write-in either cuz lets face it, that's a waste of everyones time.

Cuts & Stitches

What's with Left Arm guitarists wounding their hands just before we head into the studio? Remember, Scott burned the hell out of his hand just a few days before we went in to record with Jason Hutto. Well, we're heading in to do some recording with Rick Harmon tonight, and what do ya know? Joe cuts himself. He hasn't said how (I'll assume it was while wrestling a wild porcupine). He said he should be up and running again soon, but in the meantime Jim and I are going to start tracking drums, bass, and vocals. We're going to attempt some (if not all) of the following: "The Lure of the Light," "Congratulations," "No Time For Rock N' Roll," "After Party," "More Harm Than Good," "Gotta Go" and if we're lucky the Cramps song we've been doing, "New Kind of Kick."

Just for fun, here's some rough pre-Stumble demos of some of the new tunes:

No Time For Rock N' Roll
The Lure of the Light
Congratulations, I Don't Give a Shit
After Party
More Harm Than Good

Vote For Left Arm

See, there is an annual "Best of St Louis Poll" in St Louis' local alternative paper. In said paper there is a "Best Garage Rock Band" category. My band LEFT ARM would really like to win in this category.

So whatimaskin' will only take a minute of your time. Just go to THIS LINK and click VOTE and fill out the info and vote for LEFT ARM for BEST GARAGE ROCK BAND in St Louis. I don't care if you leave everything else blank. Ballot closes Sunday, June 3, 2007 so it would be best to do this ASAP. The three bands with the most votes in all categories get to play The Pageant which would be ridiculously insane.

You will also notice that when you go to this form, there are a bunch of bands listed and LEFT ARM is not one of them. Despite my attempts to get put on this list, I was unsuccessful. So you will have to write in LEFT ARM. Which is kinda cool cuz if we win, we will be the first band in the history of these fuckin' polls to win as a write-in.

This is also your chance to help make the unpopular kids the King and Queen of the proverbial prom. Shit...we weren't even asked to the prom. If we win, we get to crash it and we promise it will be just like the finale of Carrie except with wicked guitar solos.

Joe Stumble Needs Your Help!

That's right...I have a favor to ask of you.

See, there is an annual "Best of St Louis Poll" in St Louis' local alternative paper. In said paper there is a "Best Garage Rock Band" category. My band LEFT ARM would really like to win in this category.

If you have ever downloaded anything off of Last Days and thought, "Gee....it sure is nice of Joe to hook me up with this great, obscure music...and ad-free no less!". Well....this is your chance to pay me back! If you have ethical dilemmas voting for us without hearing us, check us out. Your help is greatly appreciated.

This is also your chance to help make the unpopular kids the King and Queen of the proverbial prom. Shit...we weren't even asked to the prom. If we win, we get to crash it and we promise it will be just like the finale of Carrie except with wicked guitar solos.

Gore Gore Girls / Left Arm Show

L-R: Amy Gore, Nicki Stixx and Hammer rock the River City

The Gore Gore Girls / Left Arm show was a smashing success. Amy Gore, Hammer and company are an amazing live act. In fact, I would say that they are one of the top 3 or 4 live acts around today. Thier new album is great as well. Favorite song at this point is Pleasure Unit. Definitely buy it.

The Atomic Cowboy was OK. Good atmosphere, super shitty small stage and no smoking. The turnout was smaller than expected but the crowd loved the show and was very enthusiastic. Definitely a goood time. Read a review of the show here.
